From ship design to onboard experiences, and especially the food, Virgin is one of her true areas of expertise.

In today’s post, Mackenzie dives into what makes Virgin Voyages a culinary standout at sea, sharing insights that go well beyond the buffet line. If you’ve ever wondered why so many seasoned cruisers rave about Virgin’s dining experience, you’re in for a treat. We’re thrilled to share her perspective with you and give you a taste of what sets this cruise line apart.

Why the Virgin Voyages Dining Experience Stands Apart

I’m just back from an incredible Virgin Voyages cruise, and I can’t wait to spill the beans on one of the most memorable aspects of my journey – the Virgin Voyages dining experience! Trust me, it’s not your typical cruise dining experience, and that’s what sets Virgin Voyages apart from the rest.

First off, let’s talk about the sheer abundance of options. With over 20 eateries on board the Scarlet Lady, Virgin Voyages goes all out to cater to every palate. From the Test Kitchen’s experimental delights to the lively Korean BBQ at Gunbae, there’s something for everyone. And the best part? It’s all included!

Virgin Voyages takes dining to a whole new level by collaborating with Michelin-starred chefs. Imagine indulging in culinary creations by the likes of Brad Farmerie and Sohui Kim – the masterminds behind PUBLIC and Insa in NYC. It’s a gastronomic journey like no other.

Now, here’s where Virgin Voyages really breaks away from the pack – no more buffets! Say goodbye to the one-big-dining-hall experience and hello to intimate spaces with diverse dining options. It’s a game-changer that not only enhances the dining experience but also minimizes waste. Anyone else not surprised that Virgin Voyages won Cruisers’ Choice Award for best dining in the large ship category?

One of my absolute favorites was Pink Agave, inspired by Mexico’s sizzling culture and food scene. This place is not your average taco joint. It’s a social and spicy odyssey that transports you to the vibrant streets of Mexico City. With curated dining journeys, an extensive selection of tequila and mezcal and beats to keep the energy high, Pink Agave is an unforgettable experience.

For those who appreciate the art of cooking, the Test Kitchen is a must-visit. It’s not just an eatery; it’s a culinary adventure. The evolving, chef-driven tasting menus are presented as ingredient lists, allowing you to explore flavors in ways you’ve never seen before. And the experiential classes, like Mixology and coffee labs, are a real treat for your taste buds.

Feeling a bit adventurous? Head to Gunbae for hands-on meat grilling and soju drinking. It’s interactive, energetic, and just plain fun. Plus, there’s a Korean drinking game involved – who wouldn’t love that?

For a touch of sophistication and nostalgia, The Wake is your destination. With stunning views, a modern twist on classic chophouses, and an atmosphere reminiscent of Madison Avenue’s glory days, it’s an event in itself. The melt-in-your-mouth Filet Mignon is a culinary dream come true that I won’t soon forget.

And there you have it, my friends! Virgin Voyages not only impressed me with its world-class dining but also with its commitment to doing things better and different. If you’re looking for an unforgettable cruise experience that revolves around exceptional food, Virgin Voyages is the way to go.

Bon appétit and happy sailing!

  1. Kyle… That’s correct. Virgin Voyages does not have traditional buffets but instead, they offer The Galley, a modern food hall with various made-to-order stations, plus many other included specialty restaurants, to provide fresh, less wasteful, and varied dining experiences. You won’t find self-serve trays, but you’ll get fresh dishes from counters, a 24/7 diner (The Manor), pizza, and more, all included in the fare.
