DoubleTree by Hilton San Pedro –Port of Los Angeles: Cruise-Friendly Hotel with Pros and Cons

If you’re cruising out of the Los Angeles World Cruise Center in San Pedro, hotel choices near the port are limited — but the DoubleTree by Hilton San Pedro stands out as a convenient option. Perfect for pre-cruise stays or a night after your sailing, this full-service property offers unbeatable proximity to the port, marina views, and the reliability of a Hilton property. Still, like any port-side hotel, there are trade-offs to know about before you book.

Pros: Location, Comfort, and Cruise Convenience

  • Location, Location, Location: Sitting right on LA Harbor, the DoubleTree offers beautiful views of the marina and is only 5 minutes from the cruise terminal. A complimentary hotel shuttle makes getting to and from the port stress-free.
  • Hilton Perks: As a Hilton property, guests can earn or redeem Hilton Honors points. It only cost me 50,000 points for a night — a fantastic redemption compared to paying $200+ for a standard room or the redemption rate at other Doubletree properties.
  • Onsite Amenities: With a decent-sized gym (note: it doesn’t open until 6 a.m.), and both breakfast and dinner service in the onsite restaurant, this hotel makes cruising logistics easy.
  • Smooth Check-In: Friendly service at the front desk makes arriving from the airport or returning post-cruise pleasant and efficient.

Cons: Limited Dining & Premium Pricing

  • Few Nearby Dining Options: The location is beautiful but remote; there aren’t many restaurants or stores within walking distance.
  • High Restaurant and Shop Prices: Expect premium pricing for dining and snacks onsite — $6 for a 20 oz. Diet Coke in the sundries shop feels worse than airport pricing!
  • Room Rates: While reasonable around $200 per night, you’ll pay extra for almost everything else.

Final Thoughts

For cruisers flying into Los Angeles or Long Beach airports, or looking for a stress-free  pre or post-cruise stay, the DoubleTree by Hilton San Pedro is a solid choice. It’s all about convenience and comfort — perfect if you’d rather focus on your upcoming sailing than juggling rideshares and long drives. Just budget for higher food and sundry costs, or plan ahead to bring your own snacks and beverages.
